There are many car festivals and events that are unique and unusual. Some of them include the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance and the Bonneville Car Festival. Other interesting car events include the Geneva Motor Show and the Tokyo Motor Show.
Bonneville Car Festival
A Bonneville car festival is one of the most unique and unusual events for motor enthusiasts. Taking place in Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats, this festival is a chance to see the fastest cars and motorcycles in the world.
This unique and unusual event has been around for over 80 years. It’s not just a festival for racing enthusiasts; it’s a family-friendly, non-hostile environment for those who simply like to watch, shop and enjoy the thrill of the chase.
The Bonneville Car Festival features a large range of classes. These include American Sports Cars from 1910-1975, Asian Sports Cars from inception to 1975, and even a class for special interest vehicles.
In addition to the many racing classes, there are also record classes for pedal-powered bikes and the fastest motorcycles. There are even two other classes for special-interest vehicles.
Other events include a vintage cruise-in and auction of classic vehicles. Also, there are several fundraisers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.
As a long-time member of the Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop, I’ve been to Bonneville several times. In fact, this crew has been attending the event for about 15 years. We spend about 8-12 hours driving each day to get there, which is not a small feat.
The Concours d’Elegance of Scottsdale is America’s second oldest Concours d’Elegance. It’s an honor to win a prize with this show, and there will be more than 250 vehicles to choose from. Some of the highlights will include a $2.5 million Bentley convertible, a ’68 Dodge Charger dubbed “Overcharged” by its purists, and a ’55 Chrysler Imperial that was among the high-water marks of Detroit design.
Greenwich Concours d’Elegance
Greenwich Concours d’Elegance is a car festival and auction featuring cars from the past. It’s a two-day event held at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Connecticut. The show features American cars and imported sports cars, vintage motorcycles and boats.
Greenwich Concours d’Elegance started in 1995 and is now produced by Hagerty. A number of renowned collectors and automotive enthusiasts are associated with this show. Some of them include Edward Hermann and Wayne Carini. In addition to classic and antique cars, the show also features vintage airplanes.
One of the highlights of the Concours was the 2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro. Only 85 of this futuristic car will be made. The price begins at $3.8 million excluding taxes. This car will be auctioned off in Bonhams’ auction on Sunday, June 1.
Among the other highlights of the 2022 show were the 1930 Duesenberg Rollston bodied Convertible Victoria, a 1934 Ferrari 250GT Le Mans, a 1948 Packard Convertible Victoria by Vignale, and a 1966 Fitch Phoenix. Several of these vehicles won awards at the Eastern Concours of the United States.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can also enjoy a number of other activities. Saturday’s Cars & Community feature included seminars and racing simulators. Additionally, a number of local charities were featured. These organizations offer a number of programs to benefit the community.
Geneva Motor Show
Geneva Motor Show is a ten-day event that takes place in the European city of Geneva. The show features a wide variety of vehicles, with special emphasis on innovative driving tech and practical ideas. It is one of the world’s largest auto shows and also serves as a launching point for the New York International Auto Show.
In addition to new vehicles, the show is also a showcase for supercars. Ferrari, for instance, regularly displays cars at the show.
Other than Ferrari, the show has featured vehicles from Jeep, Porsche, and Audi. For this year, Alpine is taking the wraps off of two new variations. They are a mid-mounted turbo four-cylinder sports car with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and a touring-focused A110 Legende.
In terms of the most interesting vehicles, the most impressive may be a prototype for the Volkswagen T-ROC concept. Also, BMW will debut a new Roadster version of its i8 coupe.
A new model from Romanian automaker Dacia is also worth a mention. The Duster Essential is a new specialty body color and features alloy wheels and Bluetooth connectivity.
Another car-related invention is the RINSPEED Rone, which is the world’s smallest automobile. Although it hasn’t made it into production yet, the developers wanted to create a sporty, environmentally friendly, and downright awesome vehicle.
